5 Minute Interview: James Jones

Question #1

Alvin: Who are you, what do you do and what do you enjoy most about it?

James: Who I am is a tough question in itself. I hope I am a Catholic first, a Father second and a Business man third.

Being a Christian brings with it a great commitment to how we live our life daily. It has to be a way of life and the focus of every decision we make. In this I often fail but keep trying.

I own a small Manufacturer representative agency in the Automotive after market.

What I enjoy most about it is closing the sale. It gives me a great sense of accomplishment because my industry tends to be very competitive. I have a very high respect for my competitors. I credit them for any success I have because they never allow me to rest on my laurels.

Question #2

Alvin: What is your personal philosophy for raising a Family?

James: Teaching by example. Actions speak louder than words, especially with children. You can’t tell children what they should do and then do the opposite yourself.

In the most difficult moments of parenthood, do what you think is right, do what you can and then put it in God’s hands.

Lastly, love your children unconditionally and make sure you’re kids know it…tell them often.

Question #3

Alvin: What do you wish to accomplish 1 year from today?

James: I want to show results from my efforts in life. For me, this should include helping others where I can. This may include financial help when needed, lending an ear when someone is troubled or giving honest advice when asked.

I relate this to my accomplishments because everything we do in life reflect the person we are.

In practical terms, I want to take a vacation with my whole Family, show controlled growth in my Company, and see my Son Graduate from College.

Question #4

Alvin: What has been your greatest experience so far as a Dad?

James: Walking my Daughters down the aisle on their wedding day and witnessing my Son become a man who stands by his convictions no matter the struggles. I learn a lot from my Children.

Question # 5

Alvin: Share your story, what has been you largest step towards manhood?

James: I would say when my Wife became pregnant with our oldest Daughter. I was nineteen at the time and realized I had to do what was right, not what was easy…it was without a doubt, the hardest decision I ever made as well as the best decision I ever made. I have never had one second of doubt about it. At the time, I dropped out of College, got married & got a job. After the birth of our Daughter, my Wife worked nights & I worked days. I could change a diaper as well as anyone.

Alvin: what has been the best advice you received about being a man?

James: Being a man is about honor and integrity. This means doing what’s right and keeping your word, no matter the cost.
