I have to agree with Alvin and Michael that the most important aspect is being involved as a parent in your child’s education. I read quite a bit about this documentary over the weekend and am really looking forward to watching it. I’m glad that people continue to push this issue to the forefront, but I truly believe that being involved at home will help overcome many obstacles for children to learn.

EXCEPTIONAL teachers have cultivated some of the most brilliant minds to date and have sacrificed for our children more than we could ever imagine. However there are teachers who continue to watch from the sidelines and allow our children to fail. It starts at HOME. It starts at HOME. Our kids “Education start at home”! The involved dad and committed mom continue the fight.

Meanwhile during all the finger pointing and blame game our job is clear, no one has to tell us to do our part. Our backs may be against the wall with this atrocity but there is nothing stopping us from stepping forward with our children education.

I don’t know why this fact is so rarely publicized. If a child has the greatest teachers and school facilities in the world, but their parents take no part in their education, that’s a prescription for failure. If the teachers and schools are terrible, but the parents are determined to take an active role in their child’s education, nothing will stop that child from securing their education.

And if a parent does only one thing for their children. Read to them when they’re too young to read for themselves and the day will come when the child takes the book from your hands and reads it themselves.
